5 ROLES FOR AN EMPOWERING LIFE
People say we are not always who we are in different situations. False.
We are, except that our behaviors are different. We believe in the same values that built us up and chase the same desires that motivate us. Different situations call for different roles, but not for a completely different character from who we truly are. We can still behave professionally, while guided by the same principles we use at home. The only difference is that we play different roles.
There are 5 roles to play in order to live a much more fulfilling life. Some may be more difficult than other roles, but nonetheless, they are a necessary component to empower our lives with meaning:
The Observer
Sometimes we just need a moment to fall back and be a witness to the fleeting moments and current situation of our lives. When we take the time to observe, we begin to see what we may have failed to notice being so busy in our lives. With so much information in our surroundings, we realize that much of that information turns out to be taking space from the information we genuinely find more important and meaningful. For example, pausing a moment to appreciate the laughter of the children in the background or noticing how the world still functions while at a standstill, may bring feelings of joy and humility. They may remind you of the reasons you began your journey into the unknown.
The Director
Face it. You know that observing for all our lives will get us nowhere. Pioneering how you want to live your life requires that you direct it how you want to. Remember that in some way, we are casts of how others want to direct their lives. If we choose not to direct our lives, we will continue being movable commodities to everyone else’s, thus, leading us further and further away from our hopes and dreams we want to accomplish. We make one mistake, we can’t “CUT! TAKE 2, ACTION!”, but we can definitely learn from it, and make our own decisions for upcoming experiences. We can direct our lives the way we want to direct it by focusing on the things we can control.
The Protector
We must have a protective mind. When we become aware of what is important and meaningful in our lives, we empower ourselves to approve or reject what enters the quality of our life: our mind. We deem what is worthy and what is not worthy. For example, when we choose to live a healthier lifestyle, we would want to engage in healthier lifestyle habits, such as getting rid of junk food from our pantries. We can protect our mind from the exposure to easily accessible food that would oppose the intentions of our decision to live healthier. Or when we know know that we must study for tomorrow’s exam, we protect our minds by logging off of social media or silencing our phones. We must have an open mind, but we must also be aware of what to focus on because what we focus on is what we dedicate our time, energy, and attention to. Or for a more vividly soul-stirring example, we would not welcome someone inside our homes and allow them to break our stuff and damage it to debris. On the contrary, we would protect our homes from such invasive destruction, and so pressingly, we must also protect our minds and body from detriment with the same -if not, more- rigor.
The FIghter
We must not forget to live life with a fighting spirit. After all, it is one of our greatest fundamental resources for cultivating Hope. To never lose Hope goes to show that the fighting spirit is still alive. Fight for the things that matter to you in life. When life pushes us against the wall, we must use the wall as a resource, we must place our feet on the wall and PUSH back! We must not let our fighting spirit wither. If we were to live a life without this fighting spirit, we would not only be used as commodities in someone else’s life, but we would also be stepped on and shoved. The fighting spirit does not call for violent behavior, but it does call for rigor, vigor, and tenacity. We have dreams and an opportunity to achieve them… Are we going to let obstacles hinder us and drop their weight on us? or are we going to push with every ounce of our passion, desires, ambition, and resilient spirit? Let us fight passionately for what truly matters to us!
The Lover
Every role mentioned above means nothing if we do not play this role the most. Every action we take, every role we play, must be founded upon this role of the Lover. A flight attendant tells us to place on the masks of oxygen on ourselves so that we may be able to extend our help and care to those around us. Similarly, to live life wholeheartedly, with tons of passion and Love, and a desire to share our gift to the world, is what the role of a Lover does.
When we play the role of the Observer, we observe so that we may take time to appreciate what we fail to notice. When we play the role of the Director, we take action for the kind of life we want to live. When we play the role of the Protector, we defend our minds because we choose to love ourselves so much that we don’t want to harm the ultimate source of our quality of life. When we play the role of the Fighter, we choose to not lose our fighting spirit to the obstacles we find in the course of our lifetime. When we play each role, we learn to grow and spread the power of Love, both to ourselves and to those around us.
